Uk-craft.com is in a class of its own, we recognise the difficulties designer makers face in making their work accessible to the many people that would love to purchase a piece of contemporary craft. Not everyone has access to a local gallery and attending exhibitions, craft shows, fairs once or twice a year is sometimes not enough. Especially when something special is needed right away for a gift or special occasion.
Designer makers spend years of their lives developing their work, from the extensive formal training to the inner passion that drives them to create what can only be explained as 'works of art.
Designer makers are entrepreneurs in their own right, as they then have to get their work from the table to the customer. Uk-craft.com provides an online exhibition that never closes, is not restricted to 'trade only', and is accessible to everyone that wishes to purchase a unique, handcrafted, often exclusive item of craft.
The word Craft is often mistaken with 'hobbycraft', the two are very different. Craft (contemporary or classic) is undertaken by an individual that is sufficiently trained in certain techniques which then equips them with profound knowledge to go off and create works of art - inspired by their inner creativity. On the other hand hobbycraft is usually undertaken by an individual that expresses a natural desire to be creative, but does not receive any formal training over a considerable amount of time. However we do accept from time to time applications for membership from exceptional craftsmen and women, who have not had any formal training.
Uk-craft.com brings designer makers to the fore, giving the British public and the rest of the world an opportunity to recognise, appreciate, and develop a greater awareness of the many British living designer makers and their amazing work.
